Successfully Planning a Baby Shower with Little or no Help
Try your best to begin planning the shower atleast One month prior to expectant mother’s due date/last day at work:
- Decide on a date that is at least one month prior to the expectant mother’s last day at work or due date
- Decide on the room/location you will use for the Shower and began the reservation process
- Give the expectant mother the questionnaire – this will enable you to answer any questions you or the guest may have
- Decide on the theme of the Shower
- Determine if there will be any Gift Baskets,Diaper Cakes,Diaper Wreaths, etc.
- Decide on your Menu items
- Make a shopping list of all items
- After conducting a price comparison, select which stores you will purchase your items from
- Send invitation to all guests
- Determine how much you will need to finance the Shower
- Advise members of your unit, (or those helping fund the Shower), how much you will be needing from each of them and when this money is due
Three weeks prior to the Baby Shower
- Collect all money due from persons assisting with the Baby Shower expenses
- If this is a Workplace Baby Shower, send invitations to those persons outside the company the expectant mother would like to invite
- Purchase all mail order items – make for sure you have enough time for those items you ordered that need to be delivered via mail.
Two weeks prior to the Baby Shower
- Order your cake
- Order any veggie/meat/cheese/fruit trays – inform them that you will not pick them up until the day of the Shower
- Purchase any special items. For example:
- Cake pans
- Serving Trays
- Ice Bucket – can use infant bathtub
- Punch Bowl and Serving Spoon
- Purchase all games, party favors, decorations, gifts
One week prior to the Baby Shower
- If this is a Workplace Baby Shower in a facility that houses many employees, send out the invitations again via email.
- Assemble all gift baskets, diaper cakes, etc.
The day prior to the Baby Shower
- If this is a Workplace Baby Shower, send out invitations with any special notes
- For instance, where to drop off gifts in the morning
- Whether they are allowed to stay for the entire time allotted
- Any room change
- Pack all decorations/party items you have at home that need to go to the Baby Shower
- Make for sure all clearances are made for the special guests to attend the Shower
The day of the Baby Shower
- Pick up any ice
- Decorate room, food table, gift table
- Arrange tables and chairs as needed
- Make punch
- Ensure that someone is designated to receive the call from Security that your special guests have arrived
- Fix the expectant mother’s plate at the Shower
- Introduce the special guests
- Take plenty of pictures
- Remember to give the expecting mother a plate/napkin/cup set as a keepsake
